OUR NEW SHIRT!
July 22, 2022
We are delighted to announce the release of the Caversham United x Phantom Brewing Co. collaborative limited edition football shirt, with 100% of profits raised to be donated to Sport in Mind!
Who are Sport in Mind?
Sport in Mind are an independent multi-award-winning mental health charity that was formed in Reading, with a simple mission:
"To improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems through sport and physical activity"
They are the UK’s leading mental health sports charity and deliver physical activity (not just sport, but walking, dance and movement, gardening and exercise sessions too!) projects in partnership with the amazing NHS in order to aid recovery, promote mental wellbeing, improve physical health, combat social isolation and empower people to move their lives forward in a positive direction. Their sessions are open to all abilities, operate on a relaxed drop-in basis, and Sport in Mind provide all the equipment - which is where the profits raised from these shirt sales can really help!
Their aim is to remove the barriers to exercise and enable people who are experiencing mental health problems to be able to raise their awareness of the positive relationship between physical health and mental health – and access sport and exercise sessions which are supportive, safe and welcoming to aid their recovery.

Why help Sport in Mind though?
Here at both Caversham United & Phantom Brewing co. we are committed to using our brands to support worthy causes, that’s why 100% of the profits generated by shirt will be donated to the brilliant Sport In Mind. It’s no coincidence that a like-minded, local brand (who brew the excellent Goat Milk) is our principal club sponsor! But the reason for supporting Sport in Mind cuts deeper.
Two years ago on this day, 22 July 2020, Caversham United’s star striker and creative genius Joe Hales attempted to take his life. Thankfully, his suicide attempt was unsuccessful, and he has and continues to worked hard to come back from it and is committed to using his story to help others and open more conversations around mental health and suicide to change the sigma surrounding them. Others have not been so fortunate, in a society where mental health issues have been amplified by the Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing fallout from that, we feel it’s really important, more now than ever, to come together and support each other, particularly those who may need it most.
We love Joe, and were naturally delighted when he brought this idea forward supporting such a worthy cause and hopefully helping to open conversation around our fantastic goats community…plus the shirt is an absolute corker…!
Talking of which…
The Shirt
The shirt combines our joint (Cav Utd X Phantom) love of retro football kits with a unique Phantom Brewing Co. custom Goat inspired design, created by the extremely talented Phantom designer Thomas Gutteridge, printed onto the body. With retro details from the interlock polyester fabric through to the V-neck collar and striped cuff details, this shirt will definitely be a collectors item for years to come!
As always, quality remains imperative here so Hope + Glory Sportswear produce their fourth Caversham United shirt. Isn’t it beautiful!?
So what are you waiting for!? Head on over to www.cavershamunited.com/shop and pick yours up from the club shop today! And if you’re 18 or over, there may be a little surprise from Phantom Brewing Co. awaiting you as a gesture of our collective appreciation…
We are United.
WE ARE RECRUITING!
July 1, 2022
As the club prepares for the forthcoming 2022-23 season, we are welcoming applications for volunteers to help and support the everyday running of the club, across a number of areas.
We are searching for:
- Coaches: An ideal opportunity to support our teams, especially for those working on their coaching badges. Commitment can be regular or ad-hoc.
- Administrative people: We would love support off the pitch, as well as on it. A grassroots football club has a range of duties that we would welcome help with.
- Manager: We are also in the market for a manager to run the team(s) on matchdays, including team selection and tactics. Commitment to trying to attend most weeks is essential.
- Players: For all three of our teams!
Whilst we would love to be able to pay people for their services, as a non-profit organisation this is just not something we can afford to do. However, you will be rewarded heavily in goodwill, being part of a growing local, forward-thinking football club and of course be welcome to be part of the club events and socials!
